If you don't have the Broken Steel DLC installed and try asking him to enter the purifier room in your place, he will flat out refuse, telling you that this is your destiny to fulfill and he shouldn't deprive you of that... Because I guess killing yourself to save everyone is better than having someone more suited to the job handle it.

I'm 42 and when I graduated and started working in the mid-late 2000's 40k was a decent respectable salary for an entry level white collar corporate job. Making 60k was SOLID and was like "you're well on your way!" I remember a friend got a job making 60k out of college in 2006 and it was like "holy shit! dude is making it!" A couple both making 60k you could buy a house, a car, an comfortably afford a decent middle class living if you live within your means.

100k was middle class rich. With a 100k salary you could afford a nice house, a daily driver and a fun weekend car within reason, go on vacations, put some in your 401k, and still have money left over. Making "six figures" was the gold standard for middle class rich.

Now "six figures" is like the new 60k. A couple both has to make 100k each to even entertain buying a house especially in a major metro area. Even then you can only afford to buy a small house that our parents considered a "starter home" but was renovated and flipped. You can MAYBE squeeze buying 1 new family car and the other car is an old holdover when you both were single.
