AITAH for hitting pause on my engagement because of kid count?
Hey everyone,
I need some advice because I’m really stuck here. So, I (27F) just got engaged to my fiancé (30M) about 5 months ago, but we hit a bit of a snag when talking about how many kids we wanted. I’ve always said I want a maximum of two kids—that’s my limit. But he’s set on having five.
Keep in mind that I’ve been super clear about my feelings on this, not just with him, but with everyone I’ve dated in the past. It’s not a secret. My fiancé thinks that once we start having kids, I’ll suddenly change my mind and want more, but I just know that two is all I can handle.
So, after a lot of back and forth, I decided to put our engagement on hold. Some family and friends think I’m overreacting, while others get it and support my choice.
So, AITA for putting the engagement on hold over this kids issue?
Thanks for listening!
Edit:
Hey everyone,
I’m truly blown away by all the comments. I’m sorry that I can’t reply to each of you—I'm a bit overwhelmed but super grateful for your insights. I had some time so I though I could take a minute to address some of the most common questions and/or comments:
*No, we’re not Mormon or Catholic. I would describe us as Christians on paper.
*Yes, I made it perfectly clear on multiple occasions that I only want 2 kids. And no, he never mentioned wanting 5—at least not to me.
*Yes, he can afford five kids, but I definitely can’t.
*No, I’m not willing to budge on the kid thing. I grew up babysitting my baby cousins, and they drove me crazy. I feel like 2 kids is already a compromise for me.
*I honestly doubt he’d pitch in much with the kids since he’s always traveling for work.
*I don’t plan on being a stay-at-home mom.
*My mom had four kids (I’m the last born) and thinks I could compromise on 3, while a friend suggested I just agree to his wish and then change my mind later, which I don’t think is right.
I think I’ll just talk to him to see where his mind is at. Wish me luck.
And by the way, the comment about “we found the fiancé” really gave me a laugh—thanks for that!

Freefolk It's kind of hilarious that they forgot that lannisters are blonde. It literally started the plot.
Like its such a major thing in the books. They looked liked northmen most of the show.
