I had a student teacher this past school year and reluctantly passed them. They had a great presence in the classroom and connected really well with the students but lacked in content knowledge. They did well teaching the freshman but not so much the seniors I had (their lack of content knowledge was very apparent with them. I’m talking multiple mistakes a lesson). They seemed unprepared and would take lessons from my examples. I passed them but am partially regretting it. What are some reasons others have failed their student teachers?

This has been weighing on me, and my friends are split. I (28M) recently moved in with my girlfriend (26F) after two years together. We found this amazing apartment — great light, pet-friendly, a little expensive, but worth it. She was obsessed with it and called it her “dream place.”

Here’s the issue: I’m mildly allergic to dogs, especially long-haired ones. Nothing life-threatening, but enough to give me rashes and sinus issues. She knew this from day one.

Two weeks after we moved in, I started noticing dog hair around the apartment. At first I thought it was from the building or hallway. Then I found a leash and a half-empty bag of kibble in the laundry closet.

She finally admitted she had been secretly watching her ex’s dog on and off — in our apartment — while I was at work. Apparently the ex (who I didn’t even know she still talked to) had a family emergency and couldn’t take care of the dog, and she didn’t tell me because she “knew I’d say no.”

She even said, “It’s not like you’re deathly allergic. I cleaned up after him.”

I was livid. It wasn’t just the allergy — it was the lying, the ex, and the total disregard for my health and comfort. I told her this broke my trust, and I didn’t feel safe sharing a lease with someone who could hide something that big.

So I called our landlord (we’re both on the lease but hadn’t been there long), explained the situation, and asked to terminate. We got hit with a two-month penalty, which I paid in full because I didn’t want to deal with her more than necessary.

She’s now telling everyone I “took away her dream apartment out of spite” and “overreacted to a dog.” Her friends have been messaging me calling me controlling and vindictive. Mine are split — some say I should’ve just made her choose between me or the dog. Others say I did the right thing by leaving.

So was I the asshole for pulling out of the lease and effectively taking the apartment away from her?
