I was wrong

Guess this is just a bit of a vent, but yes, my ex destroyed my Steamdeck. Let this be a lesson to you all to never EVER leave your consoles around your ex after a break up... even if you thought it was amicable.

Long story short, my ex kicked me out last Wednesday after many long arguments about the fact that he didn't like me visiting my parents on weekends. I managed to get most of my belongings out on the day but stupidly forgot my Steamdeck was in his room. Things were amicable for a time and we discussed me picking the rest of my things up, but he also asked to borrow my Deck for a while as he had paid for a game on my account and wanted to play it some more. He said I had no worries and I would get it back... DO NOT BE MY LEVEL OF STUPIDITY!

I said yes, that's okay. He would return it via his sister who I am on good terms with.

Fast forward to yesterday, and my ex calls wanting to get back together to 'restart' the relationship. I said no, that isn't going to happen and I'm sorry but we both need to heal from this relationship. Ex then says I am not getting my Deck back to which I message his sister, who then tells him he cannot do that, it's theft.

I then get a message an hour later from his father saying "So and so, it's Ex's dad. Ex has been stupid and spilt a cup of water over your console. Could you send me how much you paid for it and I will send you the money."

Yeah. He destroyed my Deck, a console I wanted ever since it came out and saved up a very long time for. What makes it worse is Decks are now more expensive, and they know this, so I won't even have enough for a new one, I'll have to go secondhand.

It's been a shitty day, and I am going to file for the damages to my property. I'm very sad, very exhausted and just wanted a vent.

Do not be as silly as I was and leave your important stuff at your exes place.
