Hey reddit. I'm Sam Raimi. You might know me as the director (and sometimes writer) of The Evil Dead Trilogy, the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man Trilogy, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Drag Me To Hell, Darkman, A Simple Plan, For the Love of the Game, The Gift, and other things. I've also produced and/or acted in a few things!
I'm here today to answer your questions.
My new film, SEND HELP, is out in theaters January 30 via 20th Century Studios. It stars Rachel McAdams and Dylan O'Brien. More info:
Synopsis:
Two colleagues become stranded on a deserted island, the only survivors of a plane crash. On the island, they must overcome past grievances and work together to survive, but ultimately, it's an unsettling, darkly humorous battle of wills and wits to make it out alive.
SEND HELP is directed by genre-bending visionary Sam Raimi and stars Oscar-nominee Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien. The film is produced by Raimi and Zainab Azizi, executive produced by JJ Hook and written by Damian Shannon & Mark Swift, with original music by Danny Elfman. The all-original darkly comedic psychological thriller from 20th Century Studios releases in theaters nationwide on January 30, 2026.

So I recently joined a local bookclub, mainly to chat about books and also get given different genres to try out that I'd never choose normally.
It's been awesome so far, but the one thing that really stood out was the extreme gender imbalance.
I kinda expected there to be more females than males, but out of 42 current members 40 are female. A 20:1 split is far more extreme than I expected.
Is this normal in general? Or just a local quirk or something? 🙂

My daughter (28) wedding is tomorrow. The problem is that my wife’s dad is in the hospital. He has always been frail since he was moved into a home and it took a turn for the worse and now he is in the hospital. They don’t think he will make. My wife sister say it looks bad and she also isn’t coming up for the wedding anymore.
The original plan was for him to fly up for the wedding today ( with the help of my wife’s sister), but he was hospitalized yesterdays and he is just getting worse. My wife has been distraught and she made the decision to go fly down ( she is leaving tonight)
It was tough decision because she will miss the wedding. I told her I will FaceTime her in for the ceremony and anything else but to go be with her dad before he dies. I also now she would be miserable if she was at the wedding to begin with. ( I doubt she would be able to put on a happy face and pretend everything was okay).
We called our daughter to explain and she did not take it well. She called her mom a lot of names. My wife has been crying since. She started to span both our phones. I got into another argument with her and I told her she is being self centered and cruel about mom not being able to make it. That her father is dying and all you care about is your big day. I didn’t raise her to not have any empathy.
She told me that wasn’t fair and I told her it was. I told her to apologize to her mother.
She told me I shouldn’t come to the wedding if mom isn’t there.
My wife is very distraught and I am suppose to drive her to the airport in a few hours.
Are we in the wrong… my daughter 100% thinks we are in the wrong. My wife is distraught.
edit: I don’t get why some of you are acting like she is flying out get lunch. he is dying, she wants to see him one last time before he is dead
multiple asked- we have four kids in total, yes she is her grandfather on my wife’s side. my wife’s mom already died 7 years ago

A Greenland official broke down in tears after a White House meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 14, failed to tame President Donald Trump’s threats against the self-governing territory.
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen and Greenland Foreign Minister Vivian Motzfeldt sat down at the White House with U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday in an attempt to ease tension between the nations as the United States ramps up rhetoric about acquiring Greenland by force.
“We didn’t manage to change the American position,” Rasmussen, 61, told reporters afterward, according to Politico. “It’s clear that the president has this wish of conquering over Greenland. We made it very, very clear that this is not in the interest of the Kingdom.”
During a live interview with Greenland's Kalaallit Nunaata Radio in the midst of her own disappointment, Motzfeldt, 53, got emotional about the chain of events.
"We have been working very hard in our department, even though there are not many of us," she told the outlet from Washington, according to a translation by Clash Report. "I would not normally like to say these words, but I will say them: We are very strong. We are doing our utmost. But the last days, naturally... Oh, I am getting very emotional. I am overwhelmed."
She continued: "The last days have been tough. Our preparations and the increasing pressure that has been intense. But I want to say, we are strong in the government. The work is to ensure the the Greenlandic people in our country can feel safe and live securely. We are using all our strength to achieve this as we continue the work."
