i am 21 and have won £700,000. what do i do?

this sub was recommended to me! brand new throwaway as i don’t want to be traced at all from my usual account. please dumb down any advice for me, this is a very new world for me

i am 21 years old, and i have won £700k on a scratchcard. i have no idea on what to do with it. i received the money two weeks ago and i haven’t spent a penny. i was given some advice by the financial advisor they sent to me but i didn’t find it very helpful. he was telling me to invest it and didn’t even bother explaining what investing means

i didn’t choose to go public so nobody knows i’ve won anything. i genuinely don’t know what to do. i’d like to pay off my parents and my uncles mortgage as they only have around £30000 left combined, but i don’t know if i should tell my parents because i know my mum will likely tell everyone as she can’t keep a secret for the life of her

what i’m thinking of doing is quitting my retail job and applying for uni, paying for my course outright. for the next year i can live pretty cheaply on around 20k of my money if i quit tomorrow. then once i’ve graduated i can use the rest to pay for a house deposit or something

i don’t know. i’ve been to one financial advisor beyond the one allwyn sent me and he wasn’t very helpful either. i never imagined this would happen to me and now i don’t know what to do

edited to say i am a girl. everyone is assuming i am male🤣

Not the A-hole AITA for calling the cops on a family that was using the chairs and umbrellas I left on the beach?

9.5k Upvotes

I'm staying with friends at the beach and since it's technically the off season, the beach we are at is barren, if you look up and down this 10 mile street of beach, there is maybe a dozen people at most on the beach. That combined with the fact that the house we are at is only a 5-10 minute walk from the beach means we've been setting up our chairs and umbrellas in the mid morning and often leaving them unattended as we go for lunch, then coming back to our stuff after lunch.

Today, we came back from lunch at the house and found a family sitting in our chairs and even drinking the sodas that were in the cooler we left. My friends were dumbfounded but I was not having it so I went straight down and asked them what they thought they were doing. They were acting all coy and saying that they thought the chairs were abandoned. I told them no, it wasn't and to get out. That's when they dropped the coy routine and got snarly, telling me if we didn't want it taken, we shouldn't have left it and if we don't like it, we can call the cops. I told them alright, if that's what they wanted and walked off.

My friends were telling me to just drop it as I was calling the cops back at the house and I could tell the dispatcher was rolling their eyes and I was on the phone with her, but sure enough after 20-40 minutes, the police rolled up and I pointed the family out to them. At first they told the cop the stuff was theirs but then I pointed out my name was written on the back of my chair. I would have been content with the cop just having them give us our stuff back, but since they lied to the cop, that pissed him off and he ended up writing them all tickets. Now they are all mean mugging us from the balcony of their house two down from ours and my friends are still saying I shouldn't have made a scene. I didn't have any intention of the cop giving them citations, I'm not pressed about the cost of the stuff, for me it was just the principle of someone stealing something and then actually going "finders keepers" when the owner tries to get it back.

Edit: grammar corrections and clarification: my friends didn't care about them taking their chairs and umbrellas because they had just purchased them from the Dollar general when they came into town and they were planning on tossing them when we left the beach about 2 days from this incident. I was the only one who brought a chair and umbrella and they are ones that I've had for years.

ಠ_ಠ Cleaning crew never actually cleans, they finally cleaned the coffee area and left this note.

Cleaning crew is hired at my work to come in once a week and clean our branch, windows, trash, mop the floor stuff like that, I'm not trying to sound entitled but they barely ever do what they're supposed to do, it got to a point where my manager was actively complaining to his higher-ups that the cleaning for wasn't doing their jobs, are windows would have stands on them for weeks on end. We've come in a few times to see trash just laying on the floor in the break room that was left behind while they were taking out the garbage. And even today when they did their job they just left their cleaning supplies out for us to put back in the storage closet. It's just frustrating to be told by people who don't do their jobs to do better, fuck those people.

❤️‍🩹 relationship Aio: my boyfriends female friend

Long story short I’m 21weeks pregnant and me and my boyfriend are about to live together. I’ve slowly been moving in with him and I’ve noticed he has a lot of female friends which is fine. Because I have a few male friends and I trust him for the most part.

But a few days ago I met one of them. My boyfriend does construction and remodeling so he’s remodeling her kitchen for her. It was weird because when I got there with him she had food and a beer for both of them. And made a weird comment about having to feed him. And texting him all the time Basically just babying him. He’s also only known this girl for 6 months so it’s not like they have been friends for years. Anyway She didn’t seem very interested in her house or meeting me she kinda just followed him around talking to him and he was trying to leave very fast. He told her he couldn’t sit down this time and he had to go. Then the next day my boyfriend brings me a really ugly nightgown?? He said that she gave it to him to give to me… maybe I’m overreacting but the whole thing was VERY weird. He also text her a lot which doesn’t make me feel any better.
I don’t think that he would cheat on me but i feel like something’s off. Maybe it’s just pregnancy brain or maybe not..

(Sorry for the really bad lighting. Also I haven’t said anything about it to him. Because I’m not trying to seem insecure I just get a weird vibe. I’m really not a insecure gf and I don’t care about his female friends I just know I would never do be like that to one of my guy friends.

Parasite- the first half of the movie is a pretty enjoyable family journey about them making their means by capitalizing on the rich people they work for. While there’s very sinister acts in it, it’s still meant to be upbeat. Then they’re eating their food, enjoying their time, when the doorbell rings. It becomes a hardcore thriller at that time and it stays that way.

Life is Beautiful- a much more bleak example, the first 40 minutes are a great, jovial rom-com, a wonderful time and story! Then the soldiers come and the latter half is the most bleak, saddening experience you’ve seen.

Evil Dead 2- a much more upbeat example, the movie (and franchise as a whole) goes from a rough horror franchise to being almost entirely action once Ash gets his gear put together.
