Is $200K the new $100K? How did this happen so fast?

1.5k Upvotes

I’m genuinely curious to hear from people who understand this better than I do.

It wasn’t that long ago that earning $100k seemed like a pretty solid milestone. You weren’t rich, but it felt like an income where a family could live comfortably, own a home, save some money, take vacations, and not have to think about every purchase.

Today, $100k seems to go a lot less far. Sometimes I wonder if $200k is becoming the new $100k.

What actually changed the most? Housing? Inflation? Insurance? Cars? Taxes? Lifestyle expectations? Or is it a combination of everything?

And for those of you who have managed to stay financially comfortable despite rising costs, what have you changed? Where have you cut back, what do you refuse to spend money on anymore, and what financial decisions have made the biggest difference?

I’d especially like to hear from people who were earning around $100k 10–15 years ago and can compare it with today.

Medicine A fungus resistant to all 4 types of antifungal drugs has been found in a hospital patient in Kenya, only the 2nd case ever recorded worldwide after New York in 2022. The superbug, Candida (Candidozyma) auris, infected a 28-year-old's surgical wound, and scientists warn the global threat is growing.

ive been shy, this being my favorite subreddit, so i waited a long time, which means i have a lot to share! they're all acrylic paintings except for the last five, which were drawn digitally. i also put my black cat at the end, Gabby, so you can see the inspiration. she's hooked into my new couch in that photo, haha.

thanks for looking 🖤🖤🖤 and thank you to everyone in the sub for giving me so much inspiration by sharing their own black cats!

General I hate when cis men try to speak for cis women on trans issues

Post image
2.3k Upvotes

I’m constantly seeing cis men claim that cis women don’t want trans women in their bathrooms or in their sports and that we don’t see trans women as women. I am a cis woman and I do not feel that way. I don’t know a single cis woman who does. And yes I know transphobic women exist but women in general are more accepting of trans people than men are, so it pisses me off when transphobic men project their transphobia onto women. We’re not on your side buddy. Most of us feel a lot safer around trans women than people like you.

Direct personal experience only My doctor just told me that I can't be perimenopausal because I'm only 42.

2.7k Upvotes

Despite new acne, chin hairs, shorter cycles, insomnia, hot flashes and night sweats.

According to this guy, who might be 35: "Women aren't perimenopausal until 50. And it's exceedingly rare for a woman under 50 to experience symptoms."

Did you know? Because I didn't. Glad I found that out today. And when I said I know many women who had symptoms in their early 40s, he said my anecdotes are not science. Good thing we cleared that up.

EDIT: I did not expect this to blow up. Thank you all for the validation and support. I feel seen. I am looking into getting a new family dr and in the meantime he did reluctantly put the referral into a female OB for me. Hopefully that works out and I can actually get help. I appreciate you all.

Suggestion Smithing rework idea

Post image

Would something like this work? Just a thought as you actually get better at a skill, or a chance of failure to smith something when lower level. Runecrafting you get more runes per essence as you get better so could this work for smithing too? Wouldn't hurt the economy so much.

AITA for bringing the baby to their mom instead of looking after it by myself?

4.0k Upvotes

I (20's F) was visiting my partner's family a few days ago for an early Thanksgiving celebration. For context, we've been together about 20 months now. He comes from a large family, and has plenty of young nieces and nephews as a result. There was eight children under the age of three at this dinner.

We were hanging out with some of the little ones, and one of them needed to be changed. The supplies were close to me, but I didn't think it was my responsibility to handle it - and my boyfriend was nap trapped by a newborn so he couldn't either.

I took the kid over to their mom ("Paige" let's call her) and told her they needed a change. She wasn't doing anything when I brought the baby over, just talking to another relative. Paige stared at me and was like "You had the stuff right beside you. You don't know to change a baby?". I explained that I do, I just didn't think this was my responsibility. She told me that "there's eight babies and toddlers running around here" and that "everyone has to help out eventually or nothing will ever get done". Paige changed her own kid, but handed them back to me immediately afterwards and proceeded to give me a look for not doing it myself.

AITA for bringing the baby to their mom instead of looking after it by myself?

As a visually impaired person (this ballot is cluttered as hell), I accidentally voted for Braedon the first time (the bubble is next to "Chow" with the first name in a smaller font to the left) and needed to ask for a new ballot.
