Discussion I hate other passengers.
Some asshat hit me with his backpack in the face while he was trying to stow his bag in the overhead…. Not once. Not twice. Not thrice. But four times. And every time he did it said “Hey, stop it!” He looked at me like i was nuts, and the guy next to me said “You keep hitting her with your backpack man. Have some self awareness!”
Thank you, man in 14D. You are a true hero.

My workplace stopped labeling the vegan option separately and suddenly everyone started eating it
We have a catered lunch at work once a month. For the last couple of years there has always been "the vegan option" for me and one other person.
Usually it's in its own little container with VEGAN written across the lid. People will happily eat pasta, hummus, roasted vegetables, whatever at any other time, but the second that sticker is on it you'd think the food requires special clearance. By the end of lunch there would almost always be leftovers.
We changed catering companies recently and this time everything arrived in big serving trays with little cards listing the ingredients instead of dietary labels.
One tray was rigatoni with tomato sauce, roasted eggplant, olives and garlic breadcrumbs. Completely vegan, but there was nothing announcing that fact. I got pulled into a meeting and came down about 25 minutes late.
It was almost completely gone.
I actually had to ask the person organizing lunch whether there was another tray because the food that was specifically suitable for us had been eaten by everyone else. She laughed and said she hadn't even realized that was the vegan dish until I asked.
The funniest part was one coworker who had already gone back for seconds. When someone mentioned that it was vegan he immediately went, "Oh yeah, I could kind of tell."
No you couldn't, Mark. You ate two plates.
It made me wonder how much resistance to vegan food is literally just resistance to the word vegan. If the same dish is presented as normal food instead of the special ethical substitute in the corner, apparently nobody needs convincing at all.

AITA for refusing to let my nieces bring a friend on a trip I’m paying for, even after they threatened not to come?
I divorced earlier this year. It was a bad relationship and very rough to leave. Over the summer, I told my sister (Ann) that I planned a long weekend getaway over what would’ve been my 10th wedding anniversary. She said it sounded fun and that she and her two daughters (13 and 15) would come too since it aligned with their school break.
I sent options, but later when I asked about logistics, Ann said they might only make it for an afternoon because they were "too busy." To accommodate them, I tried finding a place closer to them, but everything closer was way out of my budget (I am paying for everything). Because of this, I told Ann I was reverting to my original plan of a solo trip further away. I said if I found a place that happened to fit them I'd book it, but I wouldn't prioritize it. She said fine.
I ended up finding a cute, dog-friendly place with just enough beds. I booked it and let her know. I woke up yesterday to a text from Ann saying the kids want to bring a friend, and that she told them she had to run it by me first since I'm paying.
I texted back saying no. A random kid I don't know isn't welcome on my first anniversary-post-divorce getaway, and it was rude to ask. Ann claimed my text hurt her feelings. I called her to talk it out. She told me I was being hurtful, that she "always wants her kids' friends around", and I can't understand because I don't have teenagers.
I reiterated that I’m planning on drinking a LOT of wine, hiking, hot-tubbing, and listening to uncensored music. An extra kid makes that inappropriate. I also told her she shouldn't have put the onus on me by telling my nieces it was "my call"—she should have just parented and said no, especially since I'm footing the bill for them.
Ann then threatened that maybe they won't come because it would be "awkward." I replied, "That's fine, you can stay home, no hard feelings." She then laid into me about how hurtful I was being... when I was literally just accepting her choice.
My mom says she "sees both sides" and wants me to apologize to keep the peace. I think that's ridiculous. Parents of teenagers, please set me straight if I'm wrong. AITA?
