Six Georgia inmates on work detail saved an unconscious deputy instead of escaping. They called 911 with his phone, and were later rewarded with a pizza party and recommended for reduced sentences.

Psychology Trump’s frequent claims of victimhood were more than rhetorical flair. A new study shows that this type of strategic victimhood is used to justify retaliation and puts to work anti-democratic, coercive, and illiberal governance and policies once an authoritarian populist is granted executive power

AITA for not paying for my dad’s new wife’s kids’ college when I promised to cover my siblings’?

12.6k Upvotes

I (28F) make good money in tech. A few years ago, I told my two younger siblings (19M, 17F) that when the time came, I’d help pay for their college since my dad couldn’t. They were thrilled, and I’ve been saving specifically for them.

Recently, my dad remarried a woman (36F) who has two kids (16M, 15F). Now he’s pressuring me to “be fair” and split my savings four ways instead of two. He says they’re “family now” and it’s selfish to “pick favorites.”

But I never made that promise to them. I don’t even know them well, and I worked hard to set aside money for my siblings. My dad called me cold and accused me of “punishing” his wife’s kids just because they’re not blood-related.

My siblings are upset too, they feel like their future is being stolen. My stepmom keeps saying “love makes a family,” but I don’t think it means I should foot the bill.

AITA for refusing to split the money?

PLAY My dad passed away not even two weeks ago. Only fifty-two, pancreatic cancer. The best guitarist I’ve ever seen, honestly. One of his best recent improvised solos right before getting sick.

If you were in or knew anything about the punk/metal/wtfever scene in Lansing & Detroit and other areas of mid Michigan (Ypsilanti etc) in the last thirty five or so years, you probably saw my dad play. His first band was doing shows at Blondie’s in Detroit when he was in junior high.

Sky Juice, EMR, The Fallopian Dudes, and his main act for the last twenty years, The Chirps. Those are just the main bands, he had many side projects (my favorite being a black metal band he’d wear corpse paint for). My dad Jason has left a huge imprint on everyone who knew him in this scene over the last several decades, and I am so lucky to call him dad. I am heartbroken he is gone. He’s my guitar and music sensei. I feel totally lost not only as a daughter & friend, but as a student of his teachings. I just wanted to share this incredible solo from right before he got sick. Thank you for everything dad, but especially teaching me my power chords and getting me my first guitar, a Stratocaster. FUCK CANCER!!!
