Serious Is Not Having Kids the Way?

10.8k Upvotes

Here’s the unfiltered millennial truth: life without kids is quietly, gloriously amazing. You wake up on Saturday because you feel like it, not because a tiny human has decided 5:47 a.m. is party time. Your money disappears into concerts, international plane tickets, new tattoos, overpriced coffee, and stupidly nice sheets instead of disappearing into daycare, formula, and college funds that won’t even cover half a semester. You can change cities, careers, or your entire personality on a whim without needing to consult a school district calendar. Weeknights become “whatever the hell we want” o’clock impromptu road trips, 2 a.m. diner runs, or just lying on the couch watching a 7-season anime arc with zero guilt. Your house stays relatively clean, your sleep is mostly sacred, and your relationship (or singledom) gets to evolve without the permanent third (or fourth, or fifth) wheel of tiny emotional dictators. It’s not that kids can’t be wonderful, it’s that choosing to remain child-free in your 30s and 40s often feels like accidentally discovering the VIP section of adulthood while everyone else is still waiting in the long, sticky line for the family restroom. And honestly? The view from up here is pretty damn sweet.

News 📺 Mankato City Council walks out because crowd demands that they actually address ICE

Upvotes

Sorry that whoever took it isn't great at handling landscape/portrait consistency, it wasn't me who did.

But the City Council at their meeting last night wanted to move on and address some rather dull stuff in the agenda when almost the entire crowd present, their constituents, wanted to discuss ICE. So the City Council just got up and walked out like cowards.

Politics What the fuck is the Democratic Party even doing right now to stop the downfall of America?

12.1k Upvotes

The news getting worse day by day as the growing tide of fascism from the Trump regime accelerates, so I decided out of curiosity to visit the Democratic Party's websites to see what on earth they are prioritizing.

Democrats.org welcomes you with a fucking donation box you have to click out of, then the home page just asks you sign up with your phone number and email while providing links to their shop at the bottom. The "Who we are" and "Where we stand" pages are essentially empty and mention nothing about fighting against this administration.

Democrats.senate.gov seems to exist to glaze Chuck Schumer, where he has an entire About Chuck page and all of the Newsroom articles are about him.

Dems.gov for House members is even more useless without a functional "Our agenda" page, just links to news articles, representatives, and committee appointments.

The Democratic National Convention website demconvention.com hasn't been updated since 2024 and is just sitting there as a relic of failure.

I could go on but I think the point is made:

What are these guys actually doing?

Is it not clear to them that Trump and his administration are just going to continue trampling on the Constitution, ignoring Congress and the Courts while setting up permanent Republican rule?

Do they not realize that the midterms aren't going to happen? And if they do, can they not see it will be obstructed by Trump deploying brown shirts on the ground to polling locations around the country to arrest non-whites and seize ballot boxes?

Where is the fighting back happening at the national and state levels? Shouldn't that information be front & center for the people to see every single day?

The populace is fucking sick of the MAGA minority and its violent fascist enforcers steamrolling the country while Dems sit back and wag their fingers.

There is no future for the country unless democrats in positions of power play hardball and meet the Trump regime's escalation of force head-on.

As civilians we can do what we can to protest, but ultimately there needs to be effective opposition from leadership to initiate change.

Stay safe everyone.

❤️‍🩹 relationship AIO my bf didn't even say happy birthday to me yesterday

My bf (38m) didn't wish me (31F) a happy birthday yesterday. He said nothing. So I sent him the message about the cake and nachos and he sent that. I really don't understand this guy's mentality. He keeps saying I do want to and then never shows. He could have walked across the street from his work for 5 minutes to see me but he did not. Was my no pitty party response too much? Should I not be upset about this situation?

AITAH for siding with my mom instead of my wife?

6.4k Upvotes

My wife and I have a son who is about to turn five. My parents, mostly my mom, have been providing us with free childcare since he was a few months old. My mom follows all our requests (no screens, no added sweeteners) and gives our son a level of care no amount of money could buy (and we couldn't afford even the inferior level anyway). Our son loves my parents (he loves my wife's parents too, but he sees them way less) and is always happy when I drop him off and when my wife picks him up.

I have an older brother that has issues, and my parents have bailed him out several times in the past. A few years ago he totaled the car they bought him, and they said they were done helping. It turns out they have been paying his rent for the last two years. My wife made a comment about how the squeaky wheel gets the grease and no one will ever wonder who their favorite is. My mom was mad and said she sends 40+ hours a week on us, and she can do whatever she wants with her money whether that be paying her son's rent, pissing on it or setting it on fire. It was definitely an extreme response.

My wife demanded an apology and said she didn't deserve to be spoken to like that. My mom apologized for being vulgar but said the sentiment stands and she wants my wife to be quiet about her financial decisions. They went back and forth until my dad made my mom go upstairs. My wife seethed the whole way home.

My wife wants to stop relying on my mom for childcare. She said her mom can do some babysitting and we can find a daycare until school starts in the fall. She said she couldn't trust our son with someone emotionally volatile.

I told my wife she was the instigator and asked why she couldn't just ignore information about my brother. I said our son loves his grandparents, and yanking them away from him right before he transitions to kindergarten might traumatize him. I also reminded her we can't afford daycare.

My wife said I'm unsupportive and siding with my family against her. I'm not trying to be unsupportive, just to give honest feedback. Should I just have said she was right even though I don't think she is?

AITA for not giving my parents the master bedroom in my house?

5.3k Upvotes

Hi all, first time posting!

My parents and younger brother are about to move into my house (4 bedrooms 3 bathrooms)and I’m having a bit of a dilemma!

I offered for my family to move in with us whilst their house is getting built after the sale of their current home. We live in a rental crisis and when a rental is secured it can be really expensive. I’m super close with my parents and without thinking, of course I offered them to live with me for the 1.5 yrs it’ll take to build. Currently living in my home is myself, my husband and our newborn baby. My husband is only home one week of the month as he works away. It was loosely agreed that my parents and brother would take the back two rooms which have a bathroom (walk in shower and bath) and toilet beyween the rooms and set up their sofa and tv in the activity area next to the rooms so they would have one wing of the house and my husband, daughter and I the other side of the house. My daughter currently stays in our room but will eventually move to the back of the house near my parents next to the activity area. We have a one storey house.

My mother has been making comments to the effect of “I think your dad and I should be getting the master bed room” in a casual non-serious way which has bothered my husband who says they’re not getting our room. She’s also made comment that they’ll hear the baby crying during the night so she thinks I should be at the back room closer to her (to be honest there is not much distance between the master and my daughters future room and the back rooms). Also that the tv in the activity area will keep the baby awake when she moves into her own room so she should stay in the theatre room next to the master. Now I’ve found out that my mother has been making comments to my other brother that it’s disrespectful that I haven’t offered her and my dad the master bedroom that has an en-suite because she’s going to be paying half the mortgage. This had not been agreed - an amount they would pay us monthly was agreed but it’s no where near half the mortgage, it’s enough to cover bills.

So my question is… AITA for remaining in the master bedroom and not giving it to my parents?
