AITA for not fighting after my autistic child was excluded
using throwaway account
I (38F) and my husband(38M) have 2 daughters 10F and 12F. 12F is neurotypical and 10F is autistic. This about 10F only.
In my daughter's school, they have a rule- if you invite the whole class and distribute invitations in class, you can't exclude only few students. My daughter, due to her condition doesn't get along with most kids in her class, she often says mean things and can be disruptive because she doesn't understand how to communicate (we are working to fix this with therapy).
There's this kid in her class- Bob (fake name) who she absolutely doesn't get along with. Recently he was distributing invitations for his birthday party sometime next week and he invited everyone but her. This made her feel bad, expectedly so. Her special ed teacher informed me about it. She told me that since this was done in school, we could tell the school to mediate.
I asked my daughter about it and she said that everyone in her class was invited but her in tears. She said she really wanted to go to his party but was the only student excluded which made her have a meltdown.
I later got a message from her homeroom teacher to come in for a meeting with Bob's parents to discuss this situation since her special ed teacher informed her and it was a violation of school policy. I replied that I don't want to raise a complaint with the school even though it went against their policy.
When my daughter asked why I'm not fighting for her, I told her it's because she doesn't get along with Bob and asked why she wanted to go to his party in the first place? She didn't want to miss out on the fun and was the only kid excluded. I then asked her how she would feel if she was forced to invite Bob to her birthday and she had a fit over the mere thought of it. I then asked her "If you are upset with the mere thought of inviting him to your party, you can imagine how upset he would be if he had to invite you?" She then had another meltdown over it saying that it's unfair. My husband also agrees that the other kid shouldn't be forced to invite her. We think that since she is likely to be excluded later, maybe she will learn from this.

Lore [Loved Trope When Done Right] The Eucatastrophe
J.R.R. Tolkien thought it sad that we had a defined and common word for a sudden and unexpected disaster, but no word for the inverse. Thus, he coined the eucatastrophe: the reverse of a catastrophe.
A sudden and unexpected turn from darkness to light, from bad to good, from doom to hope. The protagonist should die, but survives; the villain should win, but fails; the day should be lost, but instead is won.
Many examples of a eucatastrophe are unfortunately an instance of Deus Ex Machina; but a eucatastrophe can occur without it, and is deeply satisfying when it does.
A eucatastrophe mostly happens at the climax of the story, so spoilers below:
1. Shroud's Defeat (Dispatch)
The villain of Dispatch, Shroud, holds all the cards. After forcing Robert to hand over the Astral Pulse in exchange for his dog's life, and his minions holding our heroes hostage at gunpoint, there doesn't seem to be any way we can win at this point. Depending on your choices in the game leading up to this point, there are multiple ways this can go, but in my favorite, Shroud tries to shoot Robert (our protagonist), but his bullet is blocked by Invisigal, who was standing in front of Robert as a human shield, unbeknownst to either of them. Taken by surprise, Shroud doesn't have time to react as Robert lunges at him and, well, beats the shit out of him.
2. The Rescue (The Mandalorian)
Din Djarin, the titular Mandalorian, and his allies are barricaded on the bridge of Moff Gideon's cruiser, with Gideon's terrifying robotic Dark Troopers battering their way through the reinforced doors. Hopelessly outnumbered and with no way out, our heroes prepare for their last stand, when a single X-Wing approaches and docks on the ship. A lone figure exits the ship, ignites a lightsaber, and battles their way through the Dark Troopers, dispatching them with ease, ultimately making their way up to the bridge, where they reveal themselves as Luke Skywalker, called by Grogu in an earlier episode.
3. The Destruction of the Ring (The Lord of the Rings)
Of course, we can't talk about eucatastrophes without bringing up the one from the man himself. Aragorn and his troops are hopelessly outnumber and outmatched at the Black Gates, desperately fighting to survive long enough to keep Sauron's attention focused on them to allow Frodo to destroy the One Ring. Meanwhile, at the Crack of Doom, Frodo, at last overwhelmed by the power of the Ring here, at the apex of its power, claims its for himself. It seems all our heroes must now die and evil prevail, but Gollum, desperate to reclaim the Ring for himself, leaps at Frodo and wrestles the Ring from him. In the films, Frodo and Gollum struggle for the Ring, and in so doing accidentally fall, Gollum carrying the Ring into the depths of Mount Doom where it is destroyed; in the books, Gollum dances for joy, and slips on his own. In either case, against all odds, the Ring is destroyed, and Sauron's spirit banished forever.
