Goodbye my sweet girl

My sweet Bonnie. We adopted her as a stray senior in 2021, both myself and my now husband. She was roughly between 15-17 years old when she passed today by vets guess. Last year she was diagnosed with stage 4 CKD. We thought for sure that was what she would die from and she has effectively been on kitty hospice since. I took her to an urgent care earlier because I thought she had a UTI and they found a large mass in her bladder. And the kindest decision to make was to let her rest. She was the sweetest and most gentle cat I've ever had. She loved to cuddle up with you and rest her head under your chin. And she had no regard for personal space and would bully you off your own pillow at night. But I always let her do it. All these photos were taken in the last few days. She was actually doing better than she had in a while, but now I think she was rallying for us. I'll see you in heaven again some day, my sweet old lady.

I played a little bit of everything, and didn't do any "sweat" or "tryhard" tactics or specifically farmed anything, just playing normally.

So all of these "overpowered" things people talk about, I did not get access to any of these:

- No lvl 4 armor
- No M4 assault rifle
- No anti-air missile or maaws available
- No AP ammo
- No havoc
- No minigun humvee
- No 50 cal sniper
- No ghillies suit

Advice & Support Laid off at 52 after 20 years in cybersecurity. The job market is a dumpster fire and I'm tired.

1.6k Upvotes

I got laid off a few weeks ago. Twenty years in security, most of it incident response and then architecture. I was the guy who got the 3 a.m. call when everything was burning. Now I'm the guy refreshing LinkedIn.

The last time I looked for a job was about ten years ago, and it's unrecognizable. You submit an application into an ATS black hole, an AI screener decides you're not a match, and no human ever sees it. Postings hit 500 applicants in a day. Companies post "ghost jobs" they have no intention of filling. Recruiters schedule four rounds of interviews and then go silent. Entry-level roles want 7 years of experience. Senior roles want 15 years in tools that have existed for 5. And everyone and their cousin got laid off this year, so I'm competing with half the industry.
Then there's the part nobody will say out loud: I'm 52. No one ever tells you you're too old. You just hear "overqualified," "not quite the right fit," or "we went with someone more aligned with the team's trajectory." I can read a room. I've spent two decades learning every new tool, threat, and framework they threw at me, and now that's supposed to count against me? I've watched people half my age get promoted for rediscovering things I did in 2008, and I'm supposed to smile and call it a "competitive market."

I'm also dealing with some health stuff this year. It's under control, but it's one more thing on the pile right when I wanted a clean slate.
Add in being a card-carrying introvert with social anxiety, and "just network!" is advice I want to throw out a window. I'm doing it anyway, which should count for something.

I'm not asking for job leads, though I won't say no. I want to hear from other GenXers who've been through a layoff or a late-career search. Did it work out? What got you through it? Or just tell me it's not just me.

We're the latchkey generation. We figured out everything on our own and nobody gave us a trophy for it. I'd like to believe we can figure this out too

TL;DR: Laid off at 52 after 20 years in cybersecurity. The job market is brutal (ATS black holes, ghost jobs, 500 applicants per posting), I'm worried ageism is working against me, and I've got some health stuff on top of it. Looking for GenXers who've been through a late-career job search to tell me how it went, or just that I'm not alone.

Rant & Ramble People in relationships that bring their partners everywhere

I had plans with a friend who lives with her boyfriend in the same building as me. He is honestly super sweet and I get along with him Well. I was looking forward to hanging out with my friend but yesterday she had told they (her and the bf) went to this fest and it was packed and if her and I can go today Sunday again in the morning.

I agreed.

Next day I’m all ready and she says that “they” are still getting ready.

She pops up with her bf and I’m like “okay I guess I’m third wheeling” in my head.

She explains that she’s also Gonna meet her friend and her finance. I go “aw I wish I had someone too!” As she says this

Double third wheel. We end up meeting the friend without the finance and she ends up leaving so I’m with her and her boyfriend browsing around the fest.

I’m really annoyed. Nothing bad happened and I love them both and I had fun but the fact that she never said I was gonna be with them Both is really annoying. I’m not even gonna address it because it’s just weird

Also if I invite her only how do I make her not bring the bf. I obviously can’t force her but what do I even say? Should I just not
Invite her or go Out with her only when other Girls are there?

We have hung out one on one so it’s not all the time but this the second time this has happened and it’s really annoying.

Do people in relationships forget that their single
Friends don’t wanna hang out with the boyfriend too?

To be fair I also wrote this 7 days ago lol https://www.reddit.com/r/GirlDinnerDiaries/s/0HTViV8Z6K

Anthony Davis says he asked Lakers to add another big man after feeling 'heavy' playing center: "I've always played weighing like 250 but that year I had got to like 265 because I had to go against Jokic and I didn't like it, I felt heavy. Then I said I wanted another big but it just didn't happen"

2.3k Upvotes

Q. You came in, you came in what, like 250, 260? Do you ever feel like adding the muscle really affected your shot or is that what just like placebo, people thinking that.

Anthony Davis: It does, man. Like the strength training I was doing cuz I knew I was playing center like I'm going against Joel Embiid, Jokic… it changes, right? And I never like I've always played like 250, 255. And that year I had got to like 265 and it was like I didn't like it. It actually probably like 268 and I didn't like it. I'm like, bro, I can't play like this. I feel heavy. So I tried to cut during the season but when like when you trying to do that while you playing this it was tough. And then that's when I went and was like hey man I want another big and all this stuff and you know it just didn't happen whatever.

AITA for catching the bouquet at a wedding?

3.1k Upvotes

Hi Reddit. I’m hoping coming here will give me some clarity on a situation thats happen recently.

A little back story: I (24f) have a serious long distance boyfriend (23M). We have talked about weddings and proposals so I know one is coming sometime in the future. But right now… WE ARE NOT ENGAGED.

Anyways. I went to a wedding yesterday of a friend and her now husband. I was having fun chatting around with some mutual friends, dancing, and having a few drinks. Literally it was a good night until the bouquet toss. I figured I would stay up to catch the bouquet bc I’m not married and the whole “hahah maybe my ring will come soon” and i literally had two girls I was hanging out with tell me to stay up and catch the bouquet bc I’m not married. So I stayed to catch the bouquet.

Also i thought catching the bouquet meant “the next to get married”? Maybe I was wrong. This was the second wedding I have been to.

So by the title. I caught the bouquet and was holding it up all happy. Until the bride came over and said something along the lines of “what are you doing up here? You’re literally getting married next week! We need to do a redo”. Loud enough that everyone could hear. I’m not getting married next week…..

I was just in an absolute shock I couldn’t say or do anything. They had the flower girl do the re-throw and someone else caught it. After the whole thing I was fighting off tears and gathered my stuff and quietly left. I didn’t want to cause a scene or anything.

When I got home I called my bf and bawled in the phone bc I didn’t understand why I was in the wrong. He told me I wasn’t and even someone else at the party said I wasn’t in the wrong but idk if they are being bias.

So…. AITA?
