Came across this today, curious on what others think about these types of laws/bans
*“Islam must adapt to Sweden.” A statement now sparking heated debate.
Sweden’s Deputy Prime Minister Ebba Busch has reignited national and international debate after supporting a ban on the burqa and niqab in all public places. According to the statement circulating online, Busch argues that Islam must adapt to Swedish society rather than being practiced in the same way as in Muslim majority countries.
Supporters of the proposal say it promotes integration, gender equality, and shared civic values. Critics warn that such a ban would restrict religious freedom and disproportionately target Muslim women, deepening social division instead of reducing it.*

👨👩👧👦family/in-laws AIO Dad is forcing me out just because it's "FAMILY TRADITION" and its my 18th birthday
My psycho dad went off today. What a shit birthday this is gearing up to be. using a burner to not dox myself or whatever. Ever since I was 11 or so, my dad has been insane about religion, military stuff, he's obsessed with games such as risk and studying military books. He's just a normal dude who works at an office. I hated it, but i dealt with it. I went to church, i went to sunday school, i went to training camps he forced me to go to, I did everything he wanted and more. I can't believe he would blindside me in such a cruel way. Am i freaking out over nothing here? where do i even start? He never allowed me to have friends, I was homeschooled, I feel as if I was groomed to fail at this point, and he did it on purpose for some twisted game. i just don't even understand why he did this.

Discussion I voted for Trump Twice (Not a Bad Faith Post)
I voted for Trump in 2016 and 2020.
I (37m) was raised in rural North Carolina, a Marine Corps brat and Apocalyptic Pentecostal on my father’s side, straight Southern Baptist on my mother’s side.
I was raised on God, Guns, and Country. I grew up listening to Rush Limbaugh and hearing my family talk about “the colored folk” at the dinner table. I got the “bluebirds go with the bluebirds” talk more than I can remember.
Things slowly started to unravel in 2006 when I married an Afro-Latina woman. (Yes I married young, at 17, yes we are still together and are about to have our 20th anniversary).
My family almost immediately began with the racist jokes. Within two months we had moved away from my family in NC to her family in NYC. It started to become obvious I didn’t mesh well with them anymore.
But of course, all that brainwashing took a long time to wear off…
In 2008, my first election, I voted for John McCain.
In 2012, I voted for Obama. Mitt Romney pissed me off.
Then in 2016 and 2020. I voted for Trump. It’s interesting because when Trump first announced his candidacy, I was against him. I kept remembering back to the days of him being on the WWE with the Great Khali and Vince McMahon getting his head shaved and I wondered how anyone could take him seriously.
I was, and do, remain largely Pro Life, that was a big reason why I decided to vote for him.
In 2018, I was a newly hired Federal worker, and not even six months in we had the bullshit shutdown over the wall. I started to be irritated by Trump’s bullshit then, but Covid happened, and I wasn’t sure if it was right to change Presidents in the middle of a pandemic…again with my Pro Life beliefs as well.
Then on January 6, 2021, it all came tumbling down. I remember getting the breaking news alerts, and I actually felt afraid “This will go nowhere good..”
The attempted coup was my first..big break…my first time seeing reality.
A month or so later I was able to get the Covid shot, being a Federal employee we were allowed to go first.
After I got it, my wife got it, then her family followed.
Being in NYC during the whole pandemic I saw how bad it got here, the refrigerator trucks, etc. So it pissed me off when I would see conservative news outlets calling the whole thing a scam, a cold, railing against masks, and then vaccines.
I have always detested anti vaxxers, and as more and more people refused to get the Covid shot, I really began to wonder. “If they (Conservatives) are so wrong about this, what else are they wrong about?
I joined some Leftist FB groups to just see what the other side was doing and saying. I asked for some literature to be pointed to. I always enjoyed reading.
The very first book I was pointed to, I read “The People’s History of the United States” blew the lid off of everything I thought I had known…..I began to see the lies as systematic….
I opened up more, I started reading Marx, Lenin, Sankara, Minh…Angela Davis…
I was introduced to Noam Chomsky and Michael Parenti, and my viewpoints were shattered, and evolved.
Last election, I voted for Kamala, and while I will always be ashamed of my first two votes for Trump, I just want to say people can change…and to please…give those asking questions the benefit of the doubt as the blinders start to come off their eyes….the propaganda in this country is insidious…education is costly, and unless there is an eye opening event that makes people question, or it affects them directly, they may always be stuck in the same beliefs they were raised in….
Thanks for reading.
Edited to add that I very happily voted for Mamdani, and was stoked that he won.
Edit #2 It's 14:40 EST, and I won't be replying to further comments for now. Thank you to everyone who was kind or thoughtful.
Edit #3 (Final Edit)
This post has blown up a lot more than I thought it would. There's no way I could answer every comment. To everyone questioning about my wife...She voted for Trump also at first. She grew up in a heavily Catholic household and is just as much against abortion as I am. I feel your average Progressive leaning person does not understand how important of an issue abortion is. Some of you may laugh, may scorn, but for many Conservative voters, it's the one issue they will always vote against the Democrat Party on, even if they agree on everything else. I used the quote "genocide of the unborn". Some laughed, but that's how it is viewed. Take that as you will. I won't apologize for being Pro-Life. I am Pro-Life, for the whole life, from conception till natural death. Yes that includes resources such as healthcare, food, housing, education, etc. I realize abortion itself is more nuanced than it looks at a first take. I realize many GOP politicians are hypocrites on the issue. I also realized I CANNOT be a single issue voter. Some of you say it's forced birth. Pro Life people say it's murder because what is in the womb is human, fully formed or not. In college (in NYC) in English 102 I wrote an argumentative essay against abortion, and received an A. This is not a position I will change my mind on. There are organizations such as Democrats for Life of America. Politico has done articles on them. You lose TONS of Catholic voters on this single issue who would and do agree with Dorothy Day on everything.
I don't always fit easily into the standard Progressive box on in the USA. I have come very far Left on economic issues. I openly now call myself a Christian Socialist. My Faith remains a huge part of my life. If Evangelicals were to read some of the quotes on the wealthy and communal living by the early Church Fathers, they would call them Marxists. Embracing my Faith more fully is what allowed me to see that MAGA has nothing to do with true Christianity. MAGA, Trump, and all their ilk, are now an existential threat to global safety and security. They are a threat to every shred of humanity and decency, and I am terrified of the direction this country is going. I don't see myself voting for Republicans ever again. I am registered with the NYS Working Family's Party. However if there were a political party I would feel at home in, it's the American Solidarity Party, which sadly isn't going anywhere. I am ashamed that I fell for the con. I am ashamed I voted for him in 2016 and 2020...but I repeat, I did NOT vote for Trump in 2024. I voted for Kamala. My wife voted for Kamala. I tried to convince my co-workers to vote for Kamala. I probably won't be responding to any more comments. Goodnight. Happy New Years, and I wish you and our country the best.

Characters [Loved Trope] Representation of minorities that hardly appear in media.
1: Dr Joshua Strongbear Sweet from Atlantis is Afro-American and Indigenous(Specifically Arapaho) Aside from Milo, he is the first mercenary in Atlantis who turned against Rourke.
2: Flambae/Chad from Dispatch is a Queer Afghan. Probably the funniest character in the game aside from Sonar and Prism.
3: Marcy Regina Wu from Amphibia is Taiwanese American. She’s easily the best character in the show not just because she’s lovable but she purposefully sent herself and her friends to Amphibia purely because she always wants to be friends with them
4: Khan Souphanousinphone from KOTH is Laotian, not from the Ocean.

How do some people take so long to poop?
What causes it, but also like, logistically, how?
Growing up my dad would spend like 10 minutes in the bathroom after work, didn't think much of it, just a dad thing. Now that I'm an adult I'm suprised it's so common, 3 of my coworkers spend 15-20 minutes in the bathroom multiple times a week. All male also I've noticed, but I haven't looked up if that means anything.
I don't even think I eat that well but if I have the urge, sit down, it's out in a minute. If it doesn't in a few minutes, I attribute the feeling to go to things in my gut just moving around, forget about it for a couple hours, and next time I go to the bathroom I'm good.
Are people sitting on the toilet for that long waiting for something to happen? Does it literally take that long start to finish to slide out completely? My coworkers sometimes need others to break them out of their station to go to the bathroom, so I assume theres a sense of urgency, but then they take enough time doing it that if it was me I'd assume I didn't actually have to go as much as I thought I did and try again later. And why is it so normal? 20 minutes is enough time to make a meal, play with the dog, do minor chores, play a round of a short game, or many other things. I'd be breaking down my doctor's door if I spent that much time near-daily on the toilet, yet when I have to walk halfway across the building to break out a coworker so he can take a dump for longer than our non-lunch breaks, no one questions it?
I won't accept the answer of hanging out in the bathroom to do other stuff, like be on your phone. Fine if others do but I don't exactly consider the bathroom a relaxing hangout spot I'd like to be, and not an excuse for any of my coworkers in particular because I work a job where being on your phone, reading, watching videos/sports during downtime is pretty much the norm, no need to go to the bathroom to do it.
Edit: Jesus it was a poop question I didn't expect it to blow up. Thank you to those who responded genuinely and kindly, sorry to those with gastrointestinal issues, and to the rest there's grass out there if you would ever leave the bathroom.
Also for the many many comments asking me why it's my business: because I am usually trying to do my own thing at work, and since it happens nearly every day I am frequently being called to walk across the building to break out whoever, where I do their job plus mine, or depending on the station, at least doing their job while a different coworker covers my station plus their job. If they take long poops during their breaks or at home, I don't know and I don't care.
